My thoughts: Character is what you are, Integrity is what you are when nobody is looking!
As I campaign throughout Florida's 3rd Congressional District, I get a lot of the same questions and many of the same concerns:
How can the government keep spending money like they are? Where is the money coming from? Why doesn't the Congress or Senate listen to us? How is the heath bill going to effect me? When are the jobs going to come back? Why do groceries cost twice as much as they did a couple years ago? When are the troops coming home???
I do not have all the answers... the following are my thoughts and my answers to the questions.
How can the Government keep spending money like they are?
They can't, even now, our dollar is loosing value quickly and the nations that lend money to the United States are becoming very concerned with their investment. My solution is start pulling the reins back on government growth. Anytime government grows, it's a debit on the tax payer and just like your home, you can not spend your way into success. Wouldn't it be nice to vote your credit/spending limit beyond your current debt level and have someone else pay for it? That is exactly what congress did by increasing the debt ceiling $1.8 Trillion. When does our governments credit limit get cut??? Very soon!
Where is the money coming from?
We all hear, China has loaned the US money... other nations have loaned the US money... but the real cash flow is coming from the printing presses, with the hope, the world and the American People will keep the “faith” in the US Dollar.
Why doesn't Congress or the Senate listen to us?
Some of them do, some actually care about their district and listen to their constituents but what it comes down to, it's the power and lifestyle. Special interest money and PAC's, (Political Action Committees), lead the way. I encourage everyone to look at the list of contributors for each candidate and follow the trail of the money back to where it came from. So why don't they listen to you... it's the money!
How is the Health Care Bill going to effect me?
Health Insurance cost will rise, Medicare/Medicaid services will dry up as many service providers will stop treatment and refer their patients to other practitioners. I wrote an opinion piece in the Gainesville Sun titled “Health Care is a Business”, it was picked up by several publications. Doctors care about their patients but they are in business to make a profit, they often donate services and cut their fee to help patients, but they can't continue cutting their fee and still provide service. Finally, you will have to buy insurance, it will be the law. To bad if you can't afford it, you will still have to buy it. If you can't afford to buy it, don't worry, the government will provide you with services offered by Medicaid service providers. Refer back to the question, Where will the money come from?
When are the jobs coming back?
When “you” stop buying cheap imported junk and start demanding quality at an affordable price. We don't make anything in this country anymore. We design... we outsource to overseas production facilities and then the product returns here and we buy it. So who is making profit on the process? When the American people pay down their current debt they can start buying again, with cash, the economy will pick up. I don't foresee unemployment levels below 7-8% for a number of years to come.
Why do groceries cost twice as much as they did a couple years ago?
Look at the gas pump... did you notice the sticker stating 10% of the fuel is alcohol? Most of that alcohol is made from corn and corn is one of the main food supplements for livestock. When demand increases, the price goes up and you pay for it. So if you can make more money growing corn, why grow anything else, creating a shortage of other food stuffs, creating a shortage, thus, the price goes up because of demand. We need to find alternatives away from the use of alcohol as a fuel supplement.
When are the troops coming home?
Not anytime soon! We will have a contingency force in Iraq for many years to come . The current troop build-up in Afghanistan will help the commanders evaluate, if, long term solutions can be reached with the Taliban. We will have troops in Afghanistan for many years to come... get used to it... we need the foothold in the area to maintain some control over terrorism.
There are many other questions but these are the most frequently asked. The answers are my opinion, based on my business/military experience and may follow your idea of the answers.
In order to qualify for the 2010 election, I have two options, one have enough petitions signed to qualify or pay a fee of $6970 and buy my qualification on the ballot... either way... I need your help.
This is a great country... we are going through a rough financial time right now... I have seen this before and the economy always comes back. What this country needs right now is strong leadership, leaders willing to stand up and and say "NO" to overspending, "NO" to expanded government and "NO" to our current tax system! It's time for limited government and keep government out of our homes!
